But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment (for the disbelievers - evil-doers),
and (there is) Forgiveness from Allah and (His) Good Pleasure (for the believers - good-doers).

{Holy Qur'an Surat: 57 Al-Hadid Verse# 20}

Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah (Radi Allahu anhu):

While we were praying [Jumuah (Khutba & prayer)] with the Prophet (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam), some camels loaded with food, arrived (from Shaam). The people diverted their attention towards the camels (and left Masjid), and only twelve people remained with the Prophet (SalAllahu alaihi wasallam). So this Verse was revealed:
And when they see some merchandise or some amusement [beating of Tambur (drum) etc.] they disperse headlong to it,
and leave you (Muhammad SalAllahu alaihi wasallam) standing [while delivering Jumu'ah religious talk (Khutbah)].
Say: "That which Allah has is better than any amusement or merchandise! And Allah is the Best of providers.
{Holy Qur'an Surat: 62 Al-Jumuah Verse# 11}
Sahih Al-Bukhari 2:58

Ibn `Umar (May Allah be pleased with them) reported: I heard Messenger of Allah (PBUH) saying, "All of you are guardians and are responsible for your wards. The ruler is a guardian and responsible for his subjects; the man is a guardian and responsible for his family; the woman is a guardian and is responsible for her husbands house and his offspring; and so all of you are guardians and are responsible for your wards."[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary:
This Hadith has already been mentioned in the chapter pertaining to the duties of a wife to her husband. Its repetition in this chapter is meant to remind rulers that if they are negligent of the duties devolved upon their shoulders, they will be wrongdoers to Allah and put to reckoning on the Day of Resurrection.

Is Prophet Muhammad the best of creation and greater than all other prophets?

By Abu Amina Elias for FaithinAllah.org

Question:

Is Prophet Muhammad the best of creation and greater than all other prophets?

Answer:

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Muslims believe in all of the Prophets of Allah, peace and blessings be upon them, without making any distinction between them.

Allah said:

Say: We have believed in Allah and what has been revealed to us and what has been revealed to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the Descendants and what was given to Moses and Jesus and what was given to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Muslims in submission to Him. [Surah Al-Baqarah 2:136]

This means the Muslims believe in all of them without saying one prophet is better than another.

Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

لَا تُخَيِّرُوا بَيْنَ الْأَنْبِيَاءِ

Do not make the prophets better than one another.

[Source: Sahih Bukhari 2281, Grade: Sahih]

This is the general rule regarding our attitude towards the Prophets and Messengers, and our Prophet specifically forbade us from saying that he is better than some other prophets.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

لَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى

No servant should say that I am better than Jonah son of Mata.

[Source: Sahih Bukhari 3234, Grade: Sahih]

In this narration, the Messenger of Allah has forbidden us from claiming that he is superior to the Prophet Jonah (Yunus), upon him be peace. In another narration, the Prophet forbade us from saying this in even stronger terms:

وَمَنْ قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى فَقَدْ كَذَبَ

Whoever says that I am better than Jonah son of Mata has told a lie.

[Source: Sunan At-Tirmidhi, 3245 Grade: Sahih]

We should believe in the exalted status of the prophets in general, although it is true that Allah has honored some prophets with blessings not given to other prophets.

Allah said:

Some of the Messengers we favored over others.

[Surah Al-Baqarah 2:253]

Abraham, upon him be peace, will be the first to be clothed on the Day of Resurrection.

Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

وَأَوَّلُ مَنْ يُكْسَى يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِبْرَاهِيمُ

The first to be clothed on the Day of Resurrection will be Abraham.

[Source: Sahih Bukhari 3171, Grade: Sahih]

Jonah, upon him be peace, was the only prophet whose entire people embraced Islam.

Allah said:

Has there not been a single city that believed so its faith benefited them except for the people of Jonah? When they believed, We removed from them the punishment of disgrace in worldly life and gave them enjoyment for a time.

[Surah Yunus 10:98]

Solomon, upon him be peace, was given an earthly kingdom unlike any prophet or ruler who came after him.

Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

وَسَأَلَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ مُلْكًا لَا يَنْبَغِي لِأَحَدٍ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ فَأُوتِيَهُ

Solomon asked Allah the Exalted for a kingdom that none after him would have, and he was given.

[Source: Sunan An-Nasa'i 693, Grade: Sahih]

Moses, upon him be peace, was given the honor of speaking with Allah directly.

Allah said:

Allah spoke to Moses directly.

[Surah An-Nisa 4:164]

Jesus and his mother Mary, peace and blessings be upon them both, were honored with being protected from Satan at the time of birth, although all other people are touched by Satan.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

كُلُّ بَنِي آدَمَ يَمَسُّهُ الشَّيْطَانُ يَوْمَ وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ إِلَّا مَرْيَمَ وَابْنَهَا

Satan touches every son of Adam on the day his mother gives birth to him, except for Mary and her son.

[Source: Sahih Muslim 2366, Grade: Sahih]

These examples demonstrate that some prophets were given unique honors, but this does not allow Muslims to claim one prophet is better than another. Rather, the Messenger of Allah specifically prohibited Muslims from arguing with the Jews and Christians about whose prophet is better.

Abu Huraira reported: Two people, one Jewish and the other Muslim, fell into dispute and began to abuse one another. The Muslim said, "By Him Who chose Muhammad in the worlds!" The Jew said, "By Him Who chose Moses in the worlds!" Then the Muslim slapped the Jew on his face. The Jew went to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and told him about the incident, so the Prophet said:

Do not say I am better than Moses for mankind will faint on the Day of Judgment and I will be the first to recover, and Moses at that time will be holding the side of the Throne. I do not know if he would faint and recover before me, or if Allah will make an exception for him.

[Source: Sahih Muslim 2373, Grade: Sahih]

Despite the Messenger of Allah's multiple commands to make no distinction among the prophets, some Muslims have given him the title "best of creation" (khayr al-barriyah). They cite as evidence the unique honors bestowed upon our Prophet, such as his leadership on the Day of Resurrection and his intercession.

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

أَنَا سَيِّدُ وَلَدِ آدَمَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَأَوَّلُ مَنْ يَنْشَقُّ عَنْهُ الْقَبْرُ وَأَوَّلُ شَافِعٍ وَأَوَّلُ مُشَفَّعٍ

I will be the leader of the children of Adam on the Day of Resurrection, and I will be the first intercessor and the first whose intercession will be accepted.

[Source: Sahih Muslim 2278, Grade: Sahih]

This is a great honor for our Prophet, but it was not the intention of the Messenger of Allah to bestow the title "best of creation" upon himself. In fact, the Messenger of Allah rejected the title "best of creation" for himself. Rather, he gave this title to his father Abraham, upon him be peace.

Anas ibn Malik reported: A person came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "O best of creation!" So the Prophet said:

ذَاكَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام

That is Abraham, upon him be peace.

[Source: Sahih Muslim 2369, Grade: Sahih]

By giving this special title to Abraham and rejecting it for himself, the Messenger of Allah showed his great humility and his love for his father Abraham. It may also have been meant to prevent bickering among the Muslims and the Jews and Christians, since all three religions have respect for Abraham.

Nevertheless, we have been warned about exaggerating the status of the Messenger of Allah.

Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

لَا تُطْرُونِي كَمَا أَطْرَتْ النَّصَارَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ فَإِنَّمَا أَنَا عَبْدُهُ فَقُولُوا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولُهُ

Do not exalt me as the Christians have exalted the son of Mary. I am but a servant, so call me the servant of Allah and His messenger.

[Source: Sahih Bukhari 3261, Grade: Sahih]

Anas ibn Malik reported: A man said, "O Muhammad! O master son of our master! O best of us son of the best of us!" So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

O people, say what you must say but do not allow Satan to deceive you. I am Muhammad the son of Abdullah, the servant of Allah and His Messenger. By Allah, I do not love that you raise my status above what Allah the Exalted has granted me.

[Source: Musnad Ahmad 12141, Grade: Sahih]

Therefore, the safest course of action is to refer to the Messenger of Allah as the "servant of Allah" and "His Messenger" without adding any exaggerated titles to this.

In conclusion, Muslims make no distinctions between the prophets, peace be upon them all. We believe in all of them without favoring one over another. The Messenger of Allah commanded us not to say one prophet is better than another, or to argue with the Jews and Christians about this matter. Likewise, we have been warned not to exaggerate our praises of the Messenger of Allah.

Success comes from Allah, and Allah knows best.

Jannah Is Not At My Mother's Feet!

Question: Jazakallahy kher for the great work, Onislam.net is one of my favorite sites and Alhamdullilah has added so much value to my life. I ask Allah to give you good help and sharpen the wisdom so that you keep up the good work.A mother in Islam is the key to jannah the queen of the house the role model of all her children, My mother is a very sympathetic but very hard to cope with.To begin with, her marriage to my father was arranged and she only accepted the proposal because my father was from a very noble family. But there has never been love between them, she can't stand him! They hardly talk, it's arguments! All the time. She accuses him of zinah ( adultery) and she's never close to us(the children) because we are his blood. My father was never blessed with wealth and my mum is very materialistic. She has set us far from the father she has poisoned us against him when we were very little. There is no closeness between our father and us. My mum would help people, she would bring street kids to the house people she hardly knows into the house to help them yet she has girls only in the house. She would never protect us. We would tell her to stop this, but arguments would follow and she would curse us for that. What does Islam say about such kind of a mother? Is it allowed to separate from the parents when one is not married so that we may have peace? Arguments and stress is really affecting us all

Answer
As salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhmy dear sister...

Thank you for sharing with us your concerns.

Albeit that your mother had an arranged marriage, this I doubt is the problem. The problem I suspect is that your mother married someone who is a poor noble, so essentially to her she is living the life she wished to lead. One could say that this is due to the way she was raised, or the condition under which she was raised, but either way, your mother seems to have a set mental disposition which will not allow her to accept anything other than what she had or has in mind.

As both parents are involved, it is important to not take sides, even when you believe that one parent in particular is in the wrong. When a loved one is so set in their ways, the only way to melt their hearts is with love, compassion and understanding; because in doing so, you give back the blessings of life that they have cut themselves off from, and by doing so you allow the blessings of life to flow to the beneficiaries – you, your siblings, and your father. This calls on all your weaknesses to be elevated through jihad an nafs the greatest battle, the battle with the self, especially when our mothers do not live up to being mothers, hence why "Jannah is at the feet of our mothers". Islamic scholar Abu al-Faraj Ibn Al-Jawzî said:

"To be kind to one's parents is: to obey them when they order you to do something, unless it is something which Allah has forbidden; to give priority to their orders over voluntary acts of worship; to abstain from that which they forbid you to do; to provide for them; to serve them; to approach them with gentle humility and mercy; not to raise your voice in front of them; nor to fix your glance on them; nor to call them by their names; and to be patient with them" – Birr Al-Walidayn (Al Birr Al-Walidayn is to obey our parents as long as it does not lead to disobeying Allah (SWT).

And the Qur'an tells us:

{And We have enjoined on man [to be good] to his parents: in travail upon travail did his mother bear him and his weaning was over two years. Be thankful to Me and to your parents, unto Me is the final destination} (Al-Luqman 31:14).

Sometimes the above can seem impossible to overcome, but we have a choice. We can choose to see our loved ones purely in a negative fashion, and in doing so we create our own destiny when I comes to marital relations, or relations all round, because form that choice comes a long list of repercussions that eat into our lives: or we can choose to love them as they are, and from that non-judgmental position a long list of positive, life-giving consequences unfold in our lives.

Unfortunately, we often too young to make that choice, but we have the choice to hold onto the negative past, or to cherish the good things, no matter how small about our past.

Far from your desire to use Islam to berate your mother, not that she has no done anything wrong, we enjoin on you to forsake those desires, and if you cannot love her for her sake, love her for the sake of your Creator, Allah (SWT), and know that will in turn impact on how your role has a mother will turn out to be as we tend to practice what we see more than what is taught. Feel good for her when she does something good, no matter how small, and turn to Allah and make du'aa'  for her when she does otherwise, insha-Allah.

May Allah help your family and shower you with His mercy and Peace

In ALLAH'S Sight, only True Religion - ISLAM

"Indeed the only true religion in the sight of Allah is Islam; those who had received the Books differed only after the knowledge came to them, due to their hearts' envy; and whoever disbelieves in the signs of Allah, then Allah is Swift At Taking Account." [3:19]

"He it is Who sent His Messenger with the guidance and the true religion that He may make it prevail over all the religions; and Allah is enough for a witness." [48:28]

"Seek they then other than the religion of Allah Whereas unto Him hath submitted whosoever is in the heavens and the earth willingly or unwillingly, and unto Him shall they all be returned." [3:83]

"And whosoever will seek a religion other than Islam, it shall not be accepted of Him, and he shall be of the losers in the Hereafter." [3:85]

"And fight against them until there be no temptations and their obedience be wholly unto Allah. So if they desist, thens verily Allah is the Beholder of that which they do." [8:39]

"Who can be better in religion than one who submits his whole self to Allah, does good, and follows the way of Abraham the true in Faith? For Allah did take Abraham for a friend." [4:125]

"And strive in the cause of Allah and make His purpose the heart of your purpose. He did not intend to put you in difficulty nor to create for you difficultness in the system of faith and worship He has chosen for you, the same system followed by your father Ibrahim . It is He -Allah- Who gave you people the descriptive and distinctive appellation "Muslims " in previous Scriptures as well as in this Book - the Quran - so that the Messenger Muhammad would be a witness of your actions and you come to be witnesses of peoples' actions which interpret their thoughts and characterize their rival systems. Therefore, engage in the act of worship, give alms and turn your minds to Allah and see that you be under His tutelage. He is your Tutelary Guardian, and how ultimate in excellence is the Protector and the Ultimate of Ultimates to afford help!" [22:78]

"And so set your heart and thoughts O Muhammad upon the Faith and rest your eyes upon Allah with sincere feeling and actions and with firmness in fidelity and allegiance and in the fulfillment of all duties owed to Him. This is the natural instinct and the innate propensity Allah has implanted in mankind and no change ever shall there be nor should there be. This right and commendable religion is the only system of faith and worship that leads directly to Allah, but most people fail to realize this fact." [30:30]

"So set thy face to the service of the right religion, before there comes the day from ALLAH for which there will be no averting. On that day believers and disbelievers will be separated from each other." [30:43]

"We have revealed to you; O Muhammad the Book -the Quran- in truth and in agreement with reality, therefore worship Allah devoting to Him alone all religious rites." [39:2]

"Remember, it is to ALLAH alone that sincere obedience is due. And those who take as protectors others beside HIM, say, `We serve them only that they may bring us near to ALLAH in station.' Surely, ALLAH will judge between them concerning that wherein they differ. Surely, ALLAH guides not him who is an ungrateful liar." [39:3]

"Say to them -the infidels- "I have been commanded to worship Allah and to devote to Him alone all religious rites." [39:11]

"Allah it is Who hath appointed for you the earth for a resting-place and the heaven for a structure, and fashioned you and fashioned you well, and provided you with goodly things. Such is Allah, your Lord. So blessed be Allah, the Lord of the worlds! He is the Living, there is no god but He, therefore call on Him, being sincere to Him in obedience; (all) praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds." [40:64-65]

"He hath ordained for you that religion which He commended unto Noah, and that which We inspire in thee (Muhammad), and that which We commended unto Abraham and Moses and Jesus, saying: Establish the religion, and be not divided therein. Dreadful for the idolaters is that unto which thou callest them. Allah chooseth for Himself whom He will, and guideth unto Himself him who turneth (toward Him)." [42:13]

"And [as for the followers of earlier revelation,] they broke up their unity, out of mutual jealousy, only after they had come to know [the truth]. And had it not been for a decree that had already gone forth from thy Sustainer, [postponing all decision] until a term set [by Him], all would indeed have been decided between them [from the outset]. As it is, behold, they who have inherited their divine writ from those who preceded them are [now] in grave doubt, amounting to suspicion, about what it portends." [42:14]

"Now then, for that (reason), call (them to the Faith), and stand steadfast as thou art commanded, nor follow thou their vain desires; but say: "I believe in the Book which Allah has sent down; and I am commanded to judge justly between you. Allah is our Lord and your Lord: for us (is the responsibility for) our deeds, and for you for your deeds. There is no contention between us and you. Allah will bring us together, and to Him is (our) Final Goal." [42:15]

"He it is Who sent His Messenger with the guidance and the true religion that He may make it prevail over all the religions; and Allah is enough for a witness." [48:28]

What is your advice to those people who use the internet bearing in mind the evils that have occurred there lately?

Question: What is your advice to those people who use the internet bearing in mind the evils that have occurred there lately?

Shaykh Ubaid Al-Jabiri: The internet as it appears to me, rather I am certain that it is a double bladed sword. It is obligatory upon those who use the internet not to be excessive. As some people spend many hours on there. Maybe staying awake for many nights and the time of fajr passes them by or other than it from the obligatory acts.
They might pray Fajr with the congregation but possibly they miss other things which are an obligation upon them. This is a mistake.
Likewise we advise them not to follow everything that it is spread on the internet, as the majority of time what a person spends on the NET is wasteful.
Or he might find that which contains no benefit.
I advise them to benefit themselves with knowledge of the religion and not to fill their time with that which is spread on the NET except if it is religious knowledge that will give them some understanding of the religion of Allah.
This is my advice, may Allah bless you all.

Misunderstandings within the home should never go beyond the door or be leaked to outsiders.
In fact, our children too, should be trained never to relate such information.
More & more people love to spice up tales & carry them door to door.
They could not be bothered to help us solve or matters when we are in need yet we considered them true to us & genuine friends.
People actually get enjoyment by such gossip & make it their business to spread it.
The only time any info should be released is when we require help to resolve a matter.
Then too, we must choose the most trustworthy, knowledgeable and genuine person with taqwa.
May we be protected from being amongst gossip mongers & may we be safeguarded from them & their evil.
Aameen.
