Muzaffarnagar violence: I&B likely to act against Sudarshan News
Officials say channel could also lose its licence if complaints found to be true
The union ministry for Information and Broadcasting is studying news content by regional television broadcaster, Sudarshan News, after complaints were filed that the channel was instigating violence in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.
According to senior officials in the ministry, the channel could also lose its licence if the complaints are found to be true. "We have been monitoring the content aired by Sudarshan News during the past few weeks and we believe that the channel is in violation of policies as some of the content is believed to have instigated violence", a senior official in the ministry said.
Sudarshan News is a Noida based Hindi broadcaster of news. Muzaffarnagar, in Uttar Pradesh has been struck by deadly communal violence which killed more than 31 people over the past week.
The violence started after a youth was killed over ever teasing and spiralled into a communal violence over the past week.__._,_.___
