However this is far from the truth, As refuted by the Sahih Hadees of Sahih Bukhari.
Sahih Bukhari Volume 1, Book 11, Number 648:
Narrated Az-Zuhn: Anas bin Malik Al-Ansari, told me,
"Abu Bakr used to lead the people in prayer during the fatal illness of the Prophet till it was Monday. When the people aligned (in rows) for the prayer the Prophet lifted the curtain of his house and started looking at us and was standing at that time. His face was (glittering)like a page of the Qur'an and he smiled cheerfully. We were about to be put to trial for the pleasure of seeing the Prophet, Abu Bakr retreated to join the row as he thought that the Prophet would lead the prayer. The Prophet beckoned us to complete the prayer and he let the curtain fall. On the same day he died."
Same Hadees from Sahih Muslim
Sahih Muslim Book 4, Number 0840:
Anas b. Malik reported, Abu Bakr led them in prayer due to the illness of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) of which be died.It was a Monday and they stood in rows for prayer. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) drew aside the curtain of ('A'isha's) apartment and looked at us while he was standing, and his (Prophet's) face was (as bright) as the paper of the Holy Book. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) felt happy and smiled. And we were confounded with joy while in prayer due to the arrival (among our midst) of the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him), Abu Bakr stepped back upon his heels to say prayer in a row perceiving that the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) had come out for prayer. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) with the help of his hand signed to them to complete their prayer. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) went back (to his apartment) and drew the curtain. He (the narrator) said: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) breathed his last on that very day.
This incident relates to the day when the Holy Prophet Muhammed Sallalaahu Alaihi wassallam breathed his last , On this day Syedina Abu Bakr Siddique was leading the prayer like he used to lead the prayers in the absence of the Holy Prophet Muhammed Sallalaahu Alaihi wasallam , The people were facing the Kaaba and the house of the Holy Prophet Muhammed Salalaahu Alaihi wasallam (Riyaz Ul Jannah) is on the left side of the Qibla in the mosque of Nabwi, The Holy Prophet Muhammed Salalaahu Alaihi wasallam usually needed two men to lift him, but on this day he came alone as though he had no illness , He lifted the Curtain and his face glittered like the page of the Quraan , The Sahabas who were in the prayer turned the heads from the Kaaba towards his Holy face
The hadees from Sahih Muslim confirms that they were in the midst of thier prayer
"And we were confounded with joy while in prayer"
Az-Zuhn: Anas bin Malik Al-Ansari mentioned in the hadees thier dilema in the sentence
We were about to be put to trial for the pleasure of seeing the Prophet
There is no doubt that they saw his face
His face was (glittering)like a page of the Qur'an and he smiled cheerfully.
The Sahabas then felt overjoyed when he was in thier midst ,and Syedina Abu Bakr Siddique radiallahu taala anhu stepped back while in prayer , then the Holy Prophet Muhammed Salalaahu Alaihi wasallam did not ask them to repeat thier prayer , he instead asked them to complete the prayer and went back in his house , a few points about his hadees
1) The Adab of the Holy Prophet Muhammed Sallalaahu Alaihi wasallam is the foremost , everything follows , his love is the backbone of Imaan , without which Imaan cannot thrive .
2) The people turned away from the Kaaba and Syedina Abu Bakr Siddique radiallahu taala anhu stepped back while in prayer , yet prayer was not repeated , this shows the importance of reverence to the Holy Prophet Muhammed Sallalaahu Alaihi wasallam
3) Remembering the Holy Prophet Muhammed in namaaz does not invalidate Namaaz , His salaam is mentioned in Attahiyaat ,and his darood is also present in namaz
4) Syedina Abu Bakr Siddique radiallahu taala anhu was always leading the prayer in absense of the Holy Prophet Muhammed Sallalaahu Alaihi wasallam

Ismail Dehlavi writes:
"In Salah the thought of the intercourse with your wife or evil temptation of adultery is better and to think about a Shaikh or a pious person even thinking about the Holy Prophet (SAWS) is much worse than thinking of your own donkey or oxen." (Astaghfirullah)
