UN Women Launches Global Call for Transformative Agenda to Make Gender Equality a Reality

UN Women released their position paper yesterday to offer clear direction on policies to usher in meaningful and lasting transformation, so that women and girls can truly enjoy their rights as equal citizens all over the world. They launched a global call for a transformative agenda to ensure concrete action that will enable women's and girls' rights to be universally secured. The position paper calls for equality in capabilities and resources, and women's voice to be the cornerstones of a stand-alone gender equality goal in the post-2015 development agenda.

The proposal for a stand-alone gender equality goal grounded in human rights also insists upon gender equality concerns throughout other goals of the post-2015 development agenda as gender progress is imperative to advancing meaningful achievement of other MDGs. The target areas of the paper aim to eradicate women's poverty, promote decent work for women, improve women's and girl's health, promote education for women and girls, improve women's access to resources, promote equal decision making in households and promote women's participation in public institutions and leadership in the private sector among other goals.
